Online Water Chemistry Analysers for Boiler and High-Purity Water
PMA supplies two distinct 3S routes for high-purity and steam-cycle water: the 3S-CL colorimetric platform for suitable wet-chemistry parameters and the separate 3S-NA sodium analyser using potentiometric ion-selective measurement.
01
Silica monitoring
The online silica analyser uses parameter-specific colorimetric chemistry for suitable high-purity, boiler, condensate and industrial-water applications. The required range and sampling point should be confirmed against current documentation.
02
Sodium measurement with 3S-NA
Sodium is not presented as another 3S-CL colorimetric chemistry. The dedicated 3S-NA online sodium analyser uses a potentiometric ion-selective electrode approach for appropriate high-purity and steam-cycle duties.
03
Hydrazine and other wet-chemistry parameters
The online hydrazine analyser and selected chloride, hardness, iron, phosphate and nitrite configurations can be reviewed where the method, matrix and concentration range suit the application.
04
Sampling points across the water-steam cycle
Demineralised water, boiler feed, condensate, steam-cycle return and cooling-water samples have different analytical purposes and concentration ranges. The measurement point must be defined before selecting the analyser and method.
See Hardness Monitoring after softening when this is part of the water-treatment duty.
05
Representative low-level samples
Low-concentration work requires careful attention to sample transport, contamination, temperature and the materials used around the sampling system. The analyser can only measure the sample that reaches it.
06
Use analyser data within the chemistry programme
Online measurements can help operating teams identify changes between manual samples. They should be reviewed alongside plant chemistry procedures, laboratory data, instrument checks and the requirements of the specific installation.
HIGH-PURITY WATER APPLICATION REVIEW
Choose the technology as well as the parameter
Silica and hydrazine use colorimetric wet chemistry on suitable 3S-CL configurations, while sodium uses the separate 3S-NA potentiometric analyser.
01.
Parameter
Define silica, sodium, hydrazine or another required chemistry measurement.
02.
Technology
Confirm colorimetric 3S-CL or potentiometric ISE 3S-NA.
03.
Sampling point
Identify demineralised water, feedwater, condensate or another cycle location.
04.
Expected range
Normal and excursion concentrations determine method suitability.
05.
Sample integrity
Review transport delay, temperature and contamination risks.
06.
Data use
Define alarms, review routines and comparison checks before commissioning.
High-purity water needs a clearly defined analytical route
A parameter name alone is not enough. The analyser technology, sampling point, concentration range and sample-handling arrangement must all match the plant chemistry objective.
3S-CL
Configurable online colorimetric wet chemistry for suitable parameters.
3S-NA
Dedicated potentiometric ISE analyser for sodium measurement.
IP54
Designed for indoor installation; suitable protection is required outdoors.
Laboratory context
Online results remain part of a wider plant chemistry and quality programme.
Review high-purity water parameters
Start with silica, sodium and hydrazine, then review other compatible parameters according to the plant process and current approved documentation.
| Parameter | Selected analytical chemistry |
| Measuring range | Method specific |
| Sample matrix | Colour and solids considered |
| Analysis time | Parameter dependent |
| Reagent use | Varies by parameter and frequency |
| Sample conditioning | Filtration where required |
| Installation | Indoor; suitable protection outdoors |
| Outputs | According to ordered configuration |
| Verification | Confirm current parameter datasheet |

Water-chemistry duties to define
The most useful online measurement begins with a clear location, concentration range and operational response.
Demineralised water
Consider silica or sodium where the selected technology and range match the monitoring objective.
Boiler and steam cycle
Review the required chemistry at feedwater, condensate or other defined sample points.
Cooling and process water
Other colorimetric parameters may be suitable where the matrix and range have been reviewed.
Keep each 3S product family distinct
3S-CL is the configurable colorimetric platform. 3S-NA is the separate sodium analyser using potentiometric ISE measurement.
Discuss a boiler or high-purity water application
Share the parameter, sample point, normal and excursion range, temperature and intended operational response with PMA, then arrange a technical review.
